An Audio Tool That Should Be in Every DAW
VU Meter is a standalone analog audio tool that helps monitor recording levels. This resizable, alternative PPM style meter works on Windows 7/Vista. The tool helps you attain enough headroom, optimal levels and a much clearer mix in your DAW. It also helps address issues that lead to congested and muddled mixes. By averaging out several shorter peaks, the tool mimics the way your ears react to audio, thereby providing you a realistic representation of how the audio level alterations are perceived.

/>the ballistics

Not bad/ not great..
Not bad/ not great. Meter fall rate is not adjustable and is slower than most VU meters. Only connects to incoming audio channels, and not any outgoing ones. Needle movement isn't all that smooth.
Pros:
Doesn't need installing.
Cons:
Outgoing channel support
Fall rate Adjustment More

VU Meter by James Chapman.
I have this VU Meter small apps since 4-5 years.
It is still the best and precision 'soft' VU Meter at this moment. Very good indeed, low in resource requirement, it is only about 5-6 MB and in average about 0.8% of CPU load.
By the way I am using version 1.2 which is suitable for Windows 7 (and also still running flawlessly in Windows 8, on my laptop) Pros:
Resizeable on demand with a minimum size about 300 pixel in width
Small application
Installation not needed
Precision display
Cons:
None
But I wish Mr. Chapman will give a new background for a better realistic display :-)
I could help him to do so More
